“Let Me Die A Youngman’s Death”

Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death
When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party
Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides
Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one
Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

Response:
From all the other poems that we read in the poetry gallery walk, I chose this poem because I felt that it was the easiest poem to understand from the others. The subject matter was about living his life in peace, rather than to die doing something he likes to do. This poem didn't really have any rhythmic quality. I personally identified this poem with a passage about getting gun down by rival gang bangers.

I also agree that this poem is easy to understand. There is really no intense vocabulary or complicated wording.
I think that when he dies, he wants to feel like hes still young. He doesn't want to die while being stuck inside or using a walker. He wants to be driving the hot car and having sex with a bunch of ladies. He thinks that this would be the best way to die. I totally disagree. I want to live my life to the fullest when I'm young, and then when I'm old i want to relax and just be happy with my husband. I wont need expensive things, or need to party hard to have fun.

This poem was super easy to understand and also it felt like you could relate to this poem because you did a good job analyzing the poem. There wasn't really any hard vocab in it so that mad it even more easier to read. It seems like he wanted to live his life and always be young so he says why grow up and die mad and old so might as well die young when I'm happy. Dont really understand why but whatever it's not my life. Good job on the poem.

This poem was definitely written by a person who knew how to live life. This poem is very easy to understand and gets the point across in a quick and simple way. The tone is similar to that of a poem that would of been written not too long ago. Great poem and great subject.
